Well, in the minds of tens of millions of Americans, progressive Democrats ran the country from Jan 2009 to Jan 2011 and they own the economic conditions as they exist today. And conditions may be a tiny bit better than they were in beginning 2009, but not sure the national mood is feeling very expansive as a result. No, political authority was handed exclusively to one party and even coming right on the heels of an administration widely despised that party was crushed 2 years later. New leadership, please. That both Pelosi and Reid easily held their leadership positions is an insult to the voters of 2008 and that the calculus for Obama is centered nearly exclusively on how much money he can scrap up speaks volumes of the wasted opportunity. Republicans are vile and nuts, but our Democrats deserve everything they got and more. - Eric

Omigod. If the tie isn't good, the policies are clearly awful. What Milbank doesn't know is that many lefties are actually very fashion conscious. Rosa Luxemburg, for instance, was much interested in fashion, and an unfortunately forgotten movie about her noted this by getting the changes in fashion right from year to year at a time when fashion changed much more slowly.

Some of us pay a lot of attention to fashion. I, on the other hand, still wear Birkenstocks and old Flax jumpers. - PeonInChief
"wearing a tie that hung loose from his neck and ended five inches above his waistband"
It's true. Progressives get everything backwards and upside down according to Milbank. It should have been a tie that was tight from his neck and ended five inches above it. - izzatzo

Yes, thank goodness we had the Republicans to give us the roaring economy of the last decade with its ahhh let me see - ten years of zero job growth, 25 million people unemployed, underemployed or out of the workforce altogether, declining real wages, millions of homeowners losing their homes, and tens of millions of homeowners underwater, oh well, never mind. - Denver Dan
