Friedman should move to China

His column mentions how great it is to live in China. The guy is a TOTAL MORON. If he lived in China and was a journalist he would work for the Communist Daily News. He would say what they told him to say. He would never ever say:
1. They have no freedom of press
2. They cannot protest even when the government is totally wrong i.e. like when schools built by dishonest contractors who are Party member fall down and kill thousands of kids---Mr. Friedman would not be able to mention this or he would go to jail.
3. He cannot leave or enter the country without permission.
4. HE WOULD NOT HAVE SOCIAL SECURITY or Medicare.
LETS ALL BUY HIM A ONE WAY TICKET TO CHINA. - Howard Houston

Jerry Jones asks "Wouldn't it be ironic if the so-called "Reagan Revolution" that is so often credited with breaking up the Soviet Union would also turn out to be the double-edged sword that would turn the United States into a sadistic dogfighting pit that gratifies the bloodlust of Wall Street and the Tea Party?".

Not merely ironic, but just. - diesel

Yes why not follow the European style and let each state pick its own type like they do. We need to localize politics...300M folks simply cannot agree. - pete

Let's Suppose...

...let's suppose millions of helpless American seniors suddenly can no longer afford their teeny apartments and squalid mobile homes because Social Security has been gutted by Congress. And suppose American seniors die by the millions because they are effectively denied healthcare via Congressional dismantling of Medicare. Meanwhile, these evangelical mega-churches would continue with their foot-stomping gospel music every Sunday while doing nothing for these unfortunate, invisible throw-away elderly. Would today's Americans care? I wonder. American looneytarians and Limbaugh/O'Reilly/Hannity/NPR heroin addicts would simply turn on their tubes for one more fix. Replace "Jesus" and "Christianity" with "money" and you can understand their true god or, more specifically, the substance they shoot, snort, drink. Addicts often kill themselves after exhibiting all manner of illogical behavior. America: a nation of abusive, bloodlusting, obese, drunk, high, gambling, greedy money addicts? If such an America were to be saved, wouldn't it have to be through the intervention of a clean, sober individual or institution? Otherwise, addiction = suicide. Wouldn't it be ironic if the so-called "Reagan Revolution" that is so often credited with breaking up the Soviet Union would also turn out to be the double-edged sword that would turn the United States into a sadistic dogfighting pit that gratifies the bloodlust of Wall Street and the Tea Party? - Jerry Jones

Friedman's column would be really good if he were a college sophomore at a second-level state university, and he was running for student government vice-president. This would make a great "what I believe" statement for someone like Tommy the Soph, and he would get lots of votes, especially from the fraternities. - jhand

What Plutocrats Want

Thomas Friedman, NPR, etc. are basically saying cut Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. Regardless of where they obtain their arguments, the sum total result is propaganda. Whether they like it or not, they are shilling for the Wall Street / Military Industrial Complex. The idea is that by cutting these programs, more money will be available for defense spending (contracts) and interest payments on the national debt not at the expense of higher taxes on the rich. - Tom Volscho
