			<description>This is an excellent post. I would only add that transportation could also be added to this mix. My son and daughter-in-law live in Germany and get along fabulously without a car. They have access to excellent public transit. Is there standard of living less than mine in rural Maine, where I need a car to go anywhere? And here in the US, one often spends endless hours in traffic because our transportation and land use planning are so flawed. These hours are uncompensated. And our GNP goes up when we spend money to clean up the pollution from our inefficient and wasteful transportation system.  - john buell</description>
