<description>Comparing Washington state's percentage of uninsured with the national average would seem to give no indication of what would happen if each of the other states were forced to follow its example - or something approximately its example. Washington's population on average is more highly paid with a larger proportion of its population working for employers that provide healthcare benefits than most other states. (http://www.census.gov/compendia/statab/2012/tables/12s0156.pdf). Leaving the provision of health insurance up to each state is going to mean the untimely death and unnecessary suffering of large numbers of the citizens of this, &quot;the richest country in the world.&quot; - S.D.
