we always use gw bush as the main boogey man. bush is very evil, corrupt & a dumb excuse for a human being. but so are the clintons. under his administration, not only was "welfare as we know it" ended leading to untold suffering by our very poorest, but glass-steagall was repealed & the commodities futures modernization bill was enacted leading to the wallstreet speculation binge that has cost ordinary americans at least $10 trillion. under slick willy's watch, look how many "free trade" treaties were enacted such as nafta leading to outsourcing of millions of good american jobs. & hillary? she can't open her mouth without lying, rivaling willard romney. she said she was under fire in bosnia when 30 or more cameras proved she wasn't. she was almost laughed off the stage at georgetown university when she said the united states has never tried to impose its will on any country. nope, we have the evilest, most corrupt, stupidest politicians in the world. yet even the average progressive columnist refuses to acknowledge this, particularly their great stupidity. oh well, only in america. - mel in oregon

Results of Welfare Reform

Joseph Stiglitz, US economist/Columbia University professor, said yesterday (MSNBC interview) that the number of Americans in extreme poverty has doubled since Clinton's welfare reform was enacted. Infant mortality rates among America's poor have risen since welfare reform, and the life expectancy of America's poor has actually fallen below that of some Third World countries. These policies kill. Today's progressive community evidently supports these policies. In addition, mandatory workfare continues to be used as cheap replacement labor, pulling down wages, blocking unionizing efforts, maintaining the steady shrinking of the middle class. We call these policies "successful." President Obama supports these policies. That's tragic, ensuring that the US will continue to transform itself into a Third World nation. - DHFabian
