In Memory of Robert Solow

We were honored to have Robert Solow as a member of our Advisory Board at the Center for Economic and Policy Research for more than a decade. Professor Solow was a brilliant economist, who broke ground in many areas of the discipline. While he was a great mathematician, he always viewed economics as a way to improve people’s lives, raising living standards and reducing poverty, not as an end in itself. His long record of accomplishments over eight decades will be hard for anyone to match. Eileen Appelbaum had the great pleasure of working with Professor Solow on a project at the Russell Sage Foundation on low-wage work in five economies. She enjoyed the conversations they shared both in their work together, and at dinners afterwards. He will be missed very much.
