Working Moms and Child Care

May 2004, Heather Boushey and Joseph Wright,

This paper explores how the burden of child care costs affect the budgets of working mothers at different income levels. It finds that only about 15 percent of children eligible for federal child care assistance actually receive any funds, and that many low-income women spend up to 40 percent of their household income on these expenses.
