Cost Effectiveness of the Most Widely Cited Think Tanks: Update

September 2014

Using the most recent numbers available, this paper provides an update on the cost effectiveness – in terms of press hits and web traffic, per dollar – of the 25 most-cited think tanks in the U.S. media. CEPR was again the most cost-effective think tank in 2012 as measured by both media citations and web traffic. CEPR had also been first in hits per dollar in the five years from 2004-2008, and in 2011. CEPR also ranked first in web traffic per budget dollar in 2011, and had ranked first in three of the five years from 2004-2008.

This brief was corrected on September 9 as the previous version listed incorrect budget information for the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.
